Assistant Project Manager, On-site (Building Division)

This is more than a job; it's an opportunity to shape the urban landscape and build projects that serve communities for generations. If you’ve ever wanted to be a part of the team that builds the very infrastructure people use every day, from airports to transit systems and schools, this is your chance. We are a dynamic, full-service construction firm with over 115 years of experience, known for our tenacity, ingenuity, and pride in our work. We're looking for a passionate and dedicated Assistant Project Manager to join our Building Division in Chicago, IL.

Position Summary

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will report to a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager and play a critical role in the successful execution of our transit and aviation projects. This isn't a desk job—you'll be on-site, managing key scopes of work and ensuring that our projects are delivered with precision and pride. You’ll work with seasoned professionals to tackle complex challenges, tight schedules, and ambitious budgets, all while ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee assigned transit and aviation projects and scopes.
  • Act as a key liaison, communicating project progress directly with owner's representatives.
  • Develop preliminary project estimates and budgets.
  • Manage the subcontractor selection process, including soliciting and reviewing bids.
  • Prepare and negotiate contract changes and proposals with owners.
  • Process and manage project submittals and shop drawings.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and maintain the CPM project schedule.
  • Monitor and maintain project costs and budgets.
  • Work closely with the Superintendent to monitor on-site construction progress.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed project documentation.
  • Actively participate in and champion on-site safety initiatives.
  • Represent the company in project meetings as required.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science in Construction Management or Engineering, or 2-3 years of relevant general construction experience.
  • Strong knowledge of transit and aviation construction, including quantity take-offs and estimating.
  • Proficiency in project management and scheduling software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000 per year.
  • Benefits Package: Includes health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, 401K matching, flexible spending account, life insurance, a referral program, professional development assistance, eligibility for a year-end bonus, and a LifeLock subscription.
