Chief Risk Officer Los Angeles, California (100% on-site) Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership to assess and mitigate significant and developing enterprise risks across CHLA. Contribute to audit functions, business continuity, claims management, insurance, physical security, integrated risk management and other active and emergent risks. Lead or influence a senior, diverse team with the aim of optimal performance, collaboration and efficiency. Direct and deliver enterprise-wide risk strategies in collaboration with other senior leaders. Manage a large portfolio of insurance assets to maximize benefits from negotiated contracts and premiums. Apply analytical, data-driven approaches to evolve and transform CHLA’s risk management functions. Report to the General Counsel and maintain key relationships with the board, executive committee and CHLA leadership; collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer to address enterprise risk issues. Key responsibilities Managing and influencing a diverse, expert team across risk areas, including recruitment, training, development, engagement and retention. Providing support and leadership to promote performance and accountability across teams. Establishing and executing a strategic framework for evaluating and mitigating risk-related issues. Educating and advising stakeholders on risk-related issues, including the board and executive leadership. Ensuring independence and oversight for Internal Audit activities and high-level investigations. Developing analytic and innovation-driven strategies to address risk issues. Collaborating with the Office of the General Counsel on calibrated legal engagement to mitigate risk. Risk Management Align risk management strategies with organizational priorities and ensure industry standards across CHLA. Maintain ongoing risk assessment mechanisms and prioritize enterprise risks. Communicate risk priorities and mitigation activities to all leadership levels. Evaluate facility exposure to risk and recommend mitigation strategies with business leaders. Advise executive leadership and the board on organizational risks and solutions. Coordinate risk strategies with compliance, legal, quality, patient safety, clinical risk, and claims teams. Oversee claims management, including investigation, reserving and resolution at appropriate total costs. Collaborate with finance and actuarial teams on reserving and financial controls. Risk Financing Manage current insurance portfolio and relationships with brokers and vendors to maximize contract value. Ensure CHLA benefits from negotiated insurance contracts through resolutions or litigation as needed. Maintain and recommend appropriate insurance products for CHLA. Audit Management – Collaboration Develop and enhance CHLA’s internal and external audit capabilities across the enterprise risk scope. Prepare and execute audit frameworks and work plans, including scope, timing, testing and reporting. Assess and prioritize emerging risk issues and the efficacy of audit requests. Business Continuity, Investigations Identify and mitigate enterprise-wide risks and threats with risk owners. Develop and execute proactive and responsive plans for emergent situations. Lead internal investigations in collaboration with CHLA leaders to calibrate investigations with overlapping responsibilities. Integrity and Compliance Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer to ensure integrated risk management and an ethical, compliant culture. Ensure policies and the CHLA Code of Conduct address risk-related issues. Identify strategic opportunities to mitigate risk based on compliance trends. Qualifications Senior leadership experience in healthcare, risk management, claims management, insurance, or related areas. Extensive experience with insurance products, laws, complex claims handling and insurance coverage litigation. Strategic and operational leadership at the senior level; collaborative with executives across the organization. Financial, analytics and data-driven leadership approach. Strong negotiation, communication skills, and tenacity in resolving complex issues. Experience in healthcare operations preferred. Minimum Qualifications / Work Experience Required: 10+ years of risk management experience. Preferred: Pediatric nursing experience; prior management experience. Education / Licensure / Certification Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; JD and/or RN. Preferred: Advanced degree in healthcare or related field; CPHRM. Pay Scale Information

USD $199,056.00 - USD $322,483.00

CHLA values the contribution each team member brings to our organization. Final determination of starting pay varies based on factors including education and experience. This pay scale applies to candidates who meet the listed qualifications. Additional pay may be determined for candidates who exceed these qualifications.
