Job Description

Job Summary: Produce freehand or electronic illustrations to visualize concepts necessary for instructing or explaining situations. Create original designs for pre-press art, posters, illustrations, and proofs by interpreting departmental ideas, teachings, or instructions for printed materials. Translate these thoughts into a design concept and execute a viable finished product that is cost-effective, meets customer needs, and is creatively designed. Essential Responsibilities: Design / Illustration and Artwork: Develop original freehand or electronic illustrations to visualize concepts for printed publications. Produce camera-ready and finished proofs, accurately assessing the message to be conveyed and offering cost-effective production methods. Provide consultation to Printing Consultants on preparation, design, ink color, and paper selection for various printed media. Produce camera-ready art and finished proofs using current computer graphics technology, software, and traditional tools when directed. Notify lead Illustrator/Designer of any production issues affecting timely completion. Resource Guide: Meet with Printing Consultants on artwork production and collaborate with printers to resolve issues. Support customers and staff by providing guidance on standards and specifications. Respond to customer inquiries about proofs or job status, using the computer tracking system to provide updates and document changes. Maintain and update computer equipment, work with IT staff for upgrades and troubleshooting, install software or peripherals as needed, and prepare electronic files for platform compatibility. Update files on the Graphic Server and related equipment, and organize the electronic art library.
