Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse / RN, you will play a vital role in enhancing the mobility, independence, and overall well-being of your assigned student. You will provide skilled, personalized nursing care for a individuals with special needs to include personal care and medication administration. This role is ideal for a RN with experience working with children, adolescents, and families, focused on creating a therapeutic, individualized environment. This is a full-time contract position through June 2026. Working under the supervision of the campus nurse and/or school principal, you will work cooperatively with the school staff, parents, and guardians to provide for the health care needs of your assigned students. By fostering a supportive and compassionate environment, you will help your student achieve their highest possible level of independence and quality of life.

EDUCATION

RN: Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
LPN/LVN: Graduate of an accredited licensed practical/vocational school of nursing.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE SCHOOL NURSE POSITION:

Education: Completion of an accredited program in practical nursing, qualifying you as a Registered Nurse / RN
Licensure: Current, unrestricted license in the state of Texas as a Registered Nurse / RN .
Experience: Minimum of one year of recent Registered Nurse / RN experience, especially with children, adolescents, and families in a community, school, or home health setting. Must have experience with Trache.
Credentials: Background check, OIG, SAM, OFAC, and NSO screenings as required.
Current BLS-level CPR certification (American Heart Association or equivalent)
Compliance with Hepatitis B vaccine
TB screening and baseline testing upon hire (two-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold as required)
Drug screening as per client contract

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitor and operate life support systems.
Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient reactions.
Assist student with daily living skills, social skills, and recreational activities.
Record and maintain health information in compliance with HIPAA.
Ensure all care practices respect cultural diversity and age-specific needs.
Special Focus: As a Registered Nurse / RN, support individual students with special needs by providing clinical care and therapeutic activities to promote independence and developmental progress.
Complies with ATC policies/procedures.
Complies with school facility nursing policies/procedures.
Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and/or other applicable standards.
Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel.
Provides required care while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment.
Provides patient services in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
Initiates emergency care as appropriate to the circumstance.
May ride the school bus as needed to accompany medically fragile students.
Serves as an intermediary between school, home, physician, and social agencies regarding the health status of students.
Maintains competency by participating in continuing education programs and meets state specific requirements.
Complies with accepted ethical conduct and professional standards of nursing practice as set forth by the American Nurses Association or equivalent nursing organization.
