Job Description

A K-12 school in Pine Bluff, AR is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for a school year contract. This role involves supporting students in both self-contained and resource settings, collaborating closely with school personnel to meet individual educational needs.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree or higher in Special Education
• Valid Arkansas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements or training for assigned subjects and levels
• Appropriate Special Education endorsements
• Experience developing and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs)
• Ability to manage and deescalate inappropriate behaviors effectively

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement instructional plans aligned with school goals and students IEPs
• Create, update, and implement IEPs using diagnostic and assessment data
• Monitor and maintain classroom discipline, teaching appropriate behavioral strategies, and restraining students when necessary
• Provide consultation to school staff, teams, and parents regarding behavior strategies, classroom management, and school-wide behavior support
• Assist disabled students with personal and self-help needs such as eating and toileting
• Foster a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student maturity and interests
• Review referral and assessment data to set suitable goals and objectives for students
• Prepare special needs students for inclusion and mainstream transitions
• Use instructional methods and materials tailored to meet educational objectives
• Assess student progress regularly and provide required reports
• Plan and supervise teacher assistants, evaluating their job performance
• Maintain and improve professional competence by participating in school activities and meetings
• Perform non-instructional duties and other responsibilities assigned by the Principal
