DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Student Health & Well-Being (SHW) cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.

The UC San Diego SHW cluster, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and SHW Administration.

Student Health Services provides quality medical services to meet the diverse needs of UCSD students including primary care, urgent care, women’s health, sports medicine, transgender care, behavioral health, travel care, nurses clinic and optometry. Laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray services are available on-site to facilitate the care of students. SHS provides quality medical services to meet the diverse needs of over 43,000 UCSD students (undergraduate, graduate and professional students) including primary care, urgent care, women’s health, sports medicine, transgender care, behavioral health, travel care, nurses clinic, and support services such as optometry, laboratory, pharmacy and x-ray services. SHS staff consists of a diverse team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, optometrists, opticians, medical assistants, health educators, administrative and other healthcare professionals. SHS provides integrated clinical services to address the medical needs of the individual students, as well as to foster the well-being of the students as a whole person. In addition, SHS oversees the public health needs of the campus community. SHS is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care and is fully committed to self examination, peer review and quality control, through the utilization of data, outcome, and patient experience measurements.

Responsible for technical and patient care work in the x-ray division and performing all general x-ray duties: preparing and positioning of patients for the exam; interacting with patients; operation of digital radiologic equipment; processing radiographs; maintenance of patient records; preparation of records of procedures performed and supplies used; and conferring with physicians/nurse practitioners/radiologists. Perform duties as a radiologic technician, in patient care, patient/staff and public communications and clinical support.

MINMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current valid license as Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist in the State of California and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

  • At least 18 months experience in a similar role and setting. Recent experience in a similar role and setting.

  • Current BLS certification with knowledge and skill to provide basic life support.

  • Demonstrated skill in performing all radiologic examinations. Ability to make independent decisions based on radiology theory and practice.

  • Knowledge to properly select/process appropriate radiologic equipment and supplies for examinations. Understands the weight limitation of imaging x-ray tables. Troubleshoots as necessary.

  • Skill to operate and maintain radiologic equipment. Demonstrate equipment set-up skills and understanding of equipment operation. Initiates proper equipment set-up procedure for all imaging equipment and any preparation as needed. Operates equipment properly and performs Quality Control (QC) on same.

  • Demonstrates positioning skills and technical factors. Positions patients quickly and accurately for timely completion of examinations. Follows departmental procedure and positioning protocol.

  • Knowledge of radiation safety guidelines and procedures. Adheres to and properly documents radiation safety practices as required by local, state and federal agencies

  • Maintains radiation protection practices as defined by ALARA principle. Demonstrates radiation protection practices for patients by providing gonadal shielding.

  • Skill in interpreting routine x-ray exams and knowledge to answer difficult technical questions.

  • Skill to communicate in an effective, informative and non-judgmental manner, in person, by telephone or in writing; Possess excellent interpersonal skills, utilizing tack and diplomacy in order to interact well with all levels of professional staff, patients and vendors; Skill to write/record patient data coherently and legibly; Operating knowledge of computer scheduling, information data entry and retrieval; skill to operate multiple line telephone; and ability to follow directions and work as team member.

  • Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all patient, student, employee and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, state and federal guidelines, including, but not limited to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

  • Skill to create and maintain filing systems with quick retrieval a major priority. Ability to keep organized, concise records.

  • Ability to give and receive constructive comments regarding medical practice, administrative procedures or other factors influencing patient care.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload effectively under variable work demands. Skill to handle large volume of patients rapidly and effectively.

  • Knowledge of OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Guidelines.

  • Current BLS certification with knowledge and skill to provide basic life support.

  • Knowledge and use of medical terminology and basic medical equipment.

  • Knowledge and meticulous use of sterile technique.

  • Experience in Urgent Care and Primary Out-Patient care clinics.

  • Demonstrated experience in using electronic medical records and understanding of medical record management.

  • Cultural competency in working with diverse populations including excellent communication skills and advocacy skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of proper business formats, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

  • At all times, demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others. Ability to adhere to and practice the mandatory University Core Values & Safety Standards of performance.

  • Complete all mandatory training and demonstrates awareness of functionsincluding but not limited to: safety, cyber security, environment of care, infection control, general compliance, workplaceviolence, ethics, and sexual harassment & prevention. Complete and pass test/quiz for all required training assigned by UCOP, UCSD, SHS and SHW on a timely basis.

  • Demonstrated experience and competency with standard business equipment, computer technologies and a variety of software including system and networking software, Microsoft Office suite, email and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of the unit and the division.

  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to acknowledge, advocate and support the efforts to dismantle structural racism and divisive biases based on race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, and political beliefs.

  • As appropriate, submit incident reports into the UCSD SHW Incident Report System, RL Datix or current system in use, to report near-misses, process problems or patient or employee injury events. Attend required trainings and refreshers for use and proper steps to follow.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must have availability to cover per diem shifts, Mon-Fri 8:00 - 4:30 pm.

  • Must complete initial credential verification, & re-credentialing every 3rd year thereafter.

  • Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form will be required, because this position is listed as a mandated reporter under (CANRA).

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $122,733 - $122,733 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $58.78 - $58.78
