This high-level technical position requires the application of advanced technical knowledge to independently lead the design of complex packaging systems in support of various business activities, including new product development, line extensions, and manufacturing maintenance.Summary/Purpose of PositionThe Staff Packaging Engineer will be responsible for leading the design and commercialization of new packaging systems and improvements to existing packaging. This role includes project leadership, mentorship of junior engineers, and supervision of co-ops.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesNew Product and Line Extension Activities:Concept developmentProject planning and schedulingDesign reviews and manufacturability assessmentsTest plan developmentPrototype packaging/tooling developmentLaunch and Commercialization:Concept and development of packaging methods and processesCoordination of new tooling and equipmentCoordination of labelingDevelopment and release of all new product and process documentation, including design controlCreation of test protocols and technical reportsPlanning and coordination of new component inventoryQualification and validation of new components, equipment, processes, and operationsPreparation of cost estimates for packagingEvaluation and recommendation of new materialsTransfer to Manufacturing:Development and management of packaging requirements for the transfer planDevelopment and release of packaging documentationCreation of test protocols and technical reportsManufacturing Support:Assessment and action plan development to address packaging-related manufacturing issuesSupport of cost improvement programs and manufacturing improvement plans related to packagingAudit supportTechnical Leadership:Lead technical initiatives, CAPA resolutions, and compliance projectsSupport due diligence teams for new business development and acquisition projectsQualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required:Education:B.S. degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Life Sciences, or other Engineering discipline with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experienceM.S. degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Life Sciences, or other Engineering discipline with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experienceExperience:Preferred experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industriesAbility to manage multiple assignments simultaneouslyHigh level of written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to independently analyze and write technical reportsKnowledge of FDA requirements and functional requirements for sterile, non-sterile, disposable, and reusable devicesAbility to conceptualize ideas, motivate and focus teams, and drive projects to completion on time and within budgetBroad knowledge of materials used in primary and secondary packaging, packaging methods, and equipmentWorking knowledge of package test methods, process validation, bar coding, and international standardsWillingness to travel as needed to support projectsCompensation Package and BenefitsAnnual Salary: $150,000 - $160,000Annual BonusComprehensive Benefits Package:Health insurance (medical, dental, vision)Retirement savings plan with company matchPaid time off (vacation, sick leave, holidays)Life and disability insuranceEmployee wellness programsProfessional development opportunitiesTuition reimbursementEmployee assistance programSponsorship: Available for eligible candidates requiring visa sponsorship.Why Join Us?A career in packaging engineering offers an opportunity to be part of a team that values your opinions and contributions and encourages you to bring your authentic self to work.
