Position Summary:

The Stage Manager/Production Manager plays a critical leadership role in the execution of all RISE Theatre productions, serving as the organizational and operational backbone of both the performance and production processes. This individual will oversee the technical and logistical aspects of the theatre program.

This position reports to the Program Director & Assistant Program Director and works closely with RISE Music & Dance staff, students, and parents to ensure a cohesive, professional, and safe theatrical experience.

Production Stage Management Responsibilities:

Serve as Stage Manager and/or Production Manager for the following events:

  • RISE Theatre Showcase Q1
  • RISE Theatre Showcase Q2
  • RISE Musical Theatre: Cabaret!
  • Christmas Production
  • Spring Productions 1–4

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Organizing and running auditions
  • Attending and managing all production meetings, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Creating and maintaining prompt books, run sheets, and all stage management documentation.
  • Coordinating all tech elements (lighting, sound, scenic, costumes, props, etc.) in collaboration with design/tech and directors
  • Calling cues and running tech rehearsals and performances.
  • Ensuring all productions are executed safely and efficiently.

Production Calendar Management:
Collaborate, create, maintain and communicate a detailed production calendar outlining rehearsal schedules, deadlines, tech weeks, performances, and meetings.

Box Office & Front of House Management:
Oversee all ticketing logistics and front-of-house operations for each production and showcase. Duties include:

  • Setting up ticket sales platforms.
  • Coordinating FOH needs with crew
  • Managing seating charts and ticket distribution.
  • Creating signage and programs for audience communication.
  • Ensuring a professional and welcoming audience experience.

Playbill Design and Student Bios: Design and produce playbills for each production.

  • Gather, edit, and format student bios.
  • Coordinate and schedule headshot photography for all cast members.
  • Manage the collection and organization of production credits and acknowledgments.

Backstage & Dressing Room Organization: Collaborate with production staff to:

  • Co Lead tech & create tech schedules
  • Design an efficient backstage traffic flow.
  • Set up and manage dressing rooms to accommodate cast needs and costume changes.
  • Ensure quiet, professional backstage environments during performances.
  • Monitor backstage safety and transitions during shows.

Inventory and Merchandise Management:

  • Oversee inventory of existing swag (shirts, hoodies, etc.).
  • Design and manage seasonal ordering of show-specific merchandise and general program swag.
  • Coordinate with vendors, place orders, and distribute items to cast, crew, and families.
  • Track sales and maintain inventory records.

Storage and Facilities Oversight:

  • Maintain a clean, organized storage room and offsite storage closet.
  • Implement a labeling and inventory system for costumes, props, set pieces, and technical gear.
  • Coordinate regular clean-outs and equipment checks.
  • Source and pull show props & rehearsal props.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Act as the primary liaison between technical crew, cast, volunteers, and creative staff.
  • Maintain consistent communication with all stakeholders to ensure clarity in scheduling, production expectations, and logistics.
  • Support student leadership opportunities and mentor student stage managers and crew leads when applicable.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive backstage environment that promotes respect, teamwork, and artistic excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Stage Management, Theatre, Theatre Education, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Prior experience in stage management or production management in educational or professional theatre settings.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, ticketing platforms (e.g., ShowTix4U, Eventbrite), and basic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite).
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends during tech weeks and performances.
