Basic Function The Standardized Patients (SP) are recruited to simulate medical scenarios or teach students essential clinical skills. SPs provide professional educational services to teach and assess health sciences learners. Training is mandatory prior to scheduling. If an SP is recruited to simulate medical scenarios, they are expected to portray the case with realism and accuracy. SPs may be physically examined by students and faculty as part of the learning experience. SPs will recall information, complete checklists, and provide verbal feedback to learners. SPs receive training prior to participation. SPs teaching sessions involve teaching clinical techniques such as history-taking, physical examination, and communication. They must complete initial and refresher training and provide step-by-step instructions and constructive feedback. SPs may be audio- and videotaped during simulations (onsite and virtual). All SP work is supervised by the SP Educator, Administrative Manager, Operations Manager, and the Director of Simulation & Clinical Skills. Work hours vary with course schedules. SPs are permitted a maximum of 58 hours per pay period and are requested to work a minimum of 25 hours per pay period, subject to course needs. SPs are not guaranteed a minimum number of hours. Supervisory Accountability None Nature And Scope Internal contacts include administrators, faculty, students, and staff of the department and University. Principal Accountabilities Interest in education and contributing to the development of healthcare professionals. Possess a positive and proactive mindset. Simulate all aspects of scenarios in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner. Wear professional clinical attire for work assignments, including a hospital gown with only appropriate undergarments, while on camera or observed live. Accurately and consistently complete checklists at a 95% accuracy percentage. Provide verbal feedback to learners using constructive feedback techniques. Be comfortable with repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on learners and clinical faculty. Accept ongoing feedback from supervisors to improve case simulations. Be willing to be audio and videotaped during simulations (onsite and virtual). Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with work scheduling and assignments. Follow written and verbal instructions from supervisors. Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with learners, faculty, supervisors, and peers. Follow all Center and HU Policies and Procedures. Minimum Requirements High School diploma or GED equivalent. Must be legally eligible to work in the US. Must be computer literate and proficient. Must successfully complete initial HU Introduction to Standardized Methodology workshop for scheduling.
