The Cox Science Center is seeking a part-time Visitor Experience Educator to support the operation, maintenance, and public engagement of interactive, technology-based exhibits and educational tools. This position blends front-facing educational responsibilities with back-end technical oversight and will be in charge of daily floor programming including the operation of our new flight simulator exhibit, “Flight Deck” and our interactive robot. This role is ideal for a tech-savvy educator who enjoys working with both technology and people, especially in a hands-on, interactive environment. Reports to: Visitor Experience Education Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Deliver engaging, technology-enhanced educational experiences for guests of all ages, including stage presentations and hands-on activities.

2. Maintain and troubleshoot exhibit technology, including computer hardware, software, AV equipment, and lighting systems.

3. Implement start up and shut down procedures for daily use of all technical programming related to “Flight Deck”.

4. Monitor and respond to real-time technical issues in public exhibit spaces to ensure minimal disruption to visitor experience. Report any damages or replacement component needs to Visitor Experience Education Manager immediately for repairs.

5. Facilitate both table activities and hands-on “STEAM Studio” programming and/or crafts for visitors of the Science Center - activity set up and break-down are part of this.

6. Interact with guests of all ages in a professional, respectful, and engaging manner, such as to encourage interest for future STEM professionals.

7. Adhere to all policies and safety procedures set forth by the Science Center.

8. Perform other related duties as required pertaining to this position.

Qualifications

1. Minimum two year’s high school education required. At least two years’ college education preferred.

2. Demonstrate interest or background in public education related to science, technology, engineering, arts, or math (STEAM).

3. Strong oral communication skills with the ability to confidently engage guests and coworkers in both educational and operational settings.

4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while being flexible to cover other roles within the Visitor Experience Department as necessary.

5. Experience working with children and the public in an educational or informal learning environment.

6. Theater, stage management, or live event experience is a plus.

Additional Requirements

 Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and perform physical tasks related to exhibit setup and maintenance.

 Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

 Availability on weekdays, weekends, and occasional evenings for special events. The Cox Science Center is a drug free workplace, all candidates must pass a criminal background check and may be subject to drug screening.

Job Type: Part - time

Shift: Thursday – Sunday with occasional evening shifts as necessary.
