Jungle Reef is a sister company to Monkey Rock. It will be located at Sunland Park Mall. It’s 25,000 square feet of public aquarium awesomeness where the public will be able to come and feed many of our animals!
Right now, Jungle Reef is under construction. It is set to open early next year.
About this time, we like to start the process of finding potential candidates to join our husbandry and animal care specialist team.
Qualifications
- Husbandry is an important position in Jungle Reef. They are required to harness some of the same skills and mindsets as Lead husbandry so that they can work together as the husbandry team as an aquarist, and herpetologist teams for Jungle Reef. In addition, a husbandry member is required to harness all the qualifications listed below;
- Excellent communication skills to connect effectively with customers and co-workers.
- Possess a positive attitude and ethics which support our values and culture.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume, clean, fun attraction-driven Interactive aquarium.
- Strong time-management skills; ability to multitask, prioritize, and organize.
- Husbandry skills; The ability to diagnose and problem-solve when it comes to animal care, damages, new projects, and POS systems.
- Problem-Solving skills; The ability to take a problem at hand and make effective decisions as a great leader would ability to diagnose and problem-solve when it comes to water leaks, DOAs, etc.
Responsibilities
- The Husbandry staff will consist of a team of 5-6 staff members that will run around the aquarium making sure SOPs are being taken care of daily/ weekly for all life support systems and enclosures.
- Taking care of its entirety the “ Animal Side” of Jungle Reef. That includes but is not limited to; Taking care of all the fish and their tanks. Taking care of all the mammals and their enclosures, taking care of all reptiles and their enclosures, taking care of all the food, and getting the food out for that day's feedings. Keeping the hospital area, and the back rooms extremely clean and organized for behind the scene tours, etc.
- Fish Care; Under the direction of the LH, husbandry members will Keep an accurate updated health log of each fish. Husband members are very well aware of the count, health condition, and current feeding schedules of all the fish.
- Mammal Care; Under the direction of the LH, husbandry members will keep an accurate updated health log of each mammal. Husband members are very well aware of the count, health condition, and current feeding schedules of all the mammals. Their job is to make sure that the interaction between animal and guests are performed in a safe manner, making sure all mammals are happy and healthy.
- Reptile care; Under the direction of the LH, husbandry members will keep an accurate updated health log of each mammal. Husband members are very well aware of the count, health condition, and current feeding schedules of all the mammals. Their job is to make sure that the interaction between animal and guests are performed in a safe manner, making sure all mammals are happy and healthy.
- Filtrations/ Life support system; Understanding the filtrations and life support systems is key to the husbandry Job description. The husbandry member needs to understand and work on each tank and enclosure, testing water chemistry, cleaning substrate, dosing tanks, etc daily. Checking the plumbing and going over each SOP for every tank/ enclosure jungle reef has to offer.
- Tours/ shows; Under the direction of the LH, trained husbandry members will be the tour guide of the tours at Jungle Reef. That includes field trip tours, after-hour tours, snake shows, shark feeding, etc.
- Feeding times; Knowing that feeding tokens and guest feedings are a big part of the experience of the jungle reef. Under the direction of the LH Husbandry members will make sure each animal is getting their adequate diet while also making sure the majority of feedings will be by the reef guests.
Minimum Requirements:
- 4 + years of knowledge and practice in either Salt Water, Fresh Water, Reptile care, or Mammal Care.
- Excellent communication skills
- Confidence/ hardworking
- Strong organizational skills to give the team direction
- Bilingual in both English and Spanish preferred
- Complete Availability. Weekends and working nights are key for this position.
Hourly Pay/ Benefits offered:
- $15-$20 an hour offered.
- $5 annual raise per year worked. Cap at $25 an hour until further notice.
- $300 Monthly HSA for health benefits offered.
